Are you an experienced Product Owner who can translate strategic objectives into clear priorities for technical development teams? For a large financial organization, in Amsterdam, we are looking for a decisive Product Owner to lead two development teams. Your primary focus will be a team delivering backend services that power high-traffic digital customer channels.These services are essential to the stability, performance, scalability, and continuous improvement of the organization’s digital ecosystem. The digital channels, including mobile and online platforms, support millions of customer interactions. In this role, you will help strengthen the shared platform capabilities that enable teams to deliver new functionality faster, more efficiently and at consistently high quality.Your roleAs Product Owner, you define and communicate product priorities, maximize the value delivered by the teams, and ensure alignment between business objectives, technology strategy and execution.You will make informed prioritization decisions, manage stakeholder expectations and provide clear direction on what needs to be delivered and why. The emphasis is on genuine product ownership and value-driven decision-making, not on facilitating Scrum ceremonies or managing individual tasks.Your responsibilities include:Taking ownership of the product vision, strategy, roadmap, and backlog for two development teams.Guiding the primary team from a predominantly legacy-focused scope towards strategic platform and service development.Translating business and technology objectives into clear, actionable priorities.Managing and prioritizing the backlog using the epic–episode–saga structure.Balancing strategic development with operational stability, risk mitigation, and regulatory requirements.Working closely with engineers, architects, business representatives, and other Product Owners.Making transparent prioritization decisions and clearly communicating the underlying rationale.Managing dependencies and aligning roadmaps across teams and stakeholders.Monitoring delivery progress and using data to improve predictability and product value.Encouraging the development and adoption of reusable platform components and shared services.Key resultsDuring the assignment, you will be expected to achieve the following measurable results.1. Team repositioning and strategic focusWithin the first six months, guide the primary development team from a predominantly legacy-focused scope towards a clear product vision centred on strategic platform and service capabilities.Success will include:Establishing an agreed team mission and product scope within the first three months.Creating and communicating a clear product roadmap.Prioritizing strategic platform development over legacy work, except where legacy activities are necessary for operational continuity, risk mitigation, or regulatory compliance.Securing stakeholder alignment on the team’s responsibilities, priorities, and long-term objectives.Achieving a measurable increase in capacity dedicated to developing and adopting new platform components and services.Conducting regular stakeholder reviews to confirm continued understanding and support.2. Product backlog managementWithin the first three months, establish and maintain a transparent, strategically aligned, and prioritized product backlog for both teams. All relevant backlog items must be connected to the organization’s strategic goals through the epic–episode–saga structure.3. Predictable value deliveryEnsure that at least 90% of committed high-priority backlog items are delivered within the agreed planning cycle while maintaining alignment with business and technology priorities.4. Stakeholder alignmentWithin the first two months, implement a structured stakeholder-management approach that results in:Clear and well-supported prioritization decisions.Documented alignment on the product roadmap.Transparent communication about progress, dependencies, risks, and trade-offs.Positive stakeholder feedback regarding communication and decision-making.What you bringAt least two years of experience as a Product Owner in an Agile software-development environment.Demonstrable experience with digital customer channels, such as mobile applications, online platforms, digital products, or other customer-facing services.Experience managing and prioritizing backlogs for software-engineering teams.Experience working with technical stakeholders and teams responsible for backend services or platform capabilities.Strong decision-making skills and the confidence to make clear prioritization choices.Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.A strong product mindset focused on customer and business value.The ability to balance strategic ambitions with operational delivery requirements.An analytical, data-driven approach to product management.The ability to challenge assumptions constructively and create alignment between stakeholders with different interests.Excellent written and spoken English.Preferred qualificationsExperience in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage:Large-scale digital environments with high transaction volumes and demanding availability requirements.Financial services or another highly regulated industry.Platform teams, shared services, or developer-enablement initiatives.Relevant Product Owner, Agile, or Product Management certifications.The assignmentThis is a secondment opportunity within a complex, large-scale digital environment. You will work on services that play a critical role in highly used customer channels and help shape the transition towards a more strategic, scalable and reusable platform landscape.
