Role: Lead Data ScientistLocation: BerlinWorking Arrangement: On-site full-time for the first six monthsSalary: Up to 2€120k, 10% performance bonus, and equity available for standout candidatesYou're the kind of person who doesn't just run experiments. You redesign the whole thing. You spot what everyone's overlooking and you make the call to rebuild it from first principles. You've done it before - probably in a startup where the alternative was watching something mediocre ship. We're hiring a Lead Data Scientist to own something genuinely rare: the chance to build a data science function that matters. Not just technically - though the technical bar here is high - but because the work you'll do is being used to solve one of the world's most pressing health challenges. The kind of problem where getting it right ripples out to millions of people. The team is small. “Brilliant minds, kind hearts” is not corporate fluff - it's how they actually operate. You'll work directly with the Chief AI Officer to set priorities, shape the team culture from the inside, and lead three Data Scientists and AI Engineers who will take their cues from you. But this isn't a hands-off management role. You lead from the front. You do the work alongside your team. You show what good looks like by example. The data is real. Two years of clinical conversations - a dataset almost no team has access to. It's complex, it's ambiguous, and it needs someone who doesn't panic when the standard playbook doesn't work. Someone who thinks independently, reasons from first principles, and when a hard call needs making, walks into the room able to defend it.Your first 90 days are crystal clear: get deep into the existing data architecture, establish how the team works together and what the standards are, and ship something meaningful - a production-ready pipeline or model that the product depends on. Not a prototype. Not a proof of concept. Something that works because you made it work.Beyond that, you'll shape how the data function scales. Hiring decisions. Architectural direction. Building the kind of team culture where high standards become self-sustaining.You've probably worked in startups. You understand that roles blur, that hours stretch when something needs shipping, and that building something worthwhile actually looks like that. You're not someone who fell into data science - you're someone genuinely energised by the craft. You can build the pipelines your models depend on. You care about the quality of what you produce in a way that matters. You'll be based in Berlin, on-site full-time for the first six months. After that, there's flexibility - but the culture in the office is real and it matters. On offer:Salary of €90k–€120k, 10% performance bonus, and equity available for standout candidates. The team is international by design, 30 people across 16+ nationalities, and they've already signed contracts with 15+ of the world's top pharma companies. This isn't a startup trying to prove the model works. It's a startup that's proven it and is now building something that scales. All applicants are screened by an experienced, human recruiter - not AI.We welcome diverse applicants and are dedicated to treating all applicants with dignity and respect, regardless of background.
