Project Manager – Defense ProgrammesLocation: Berlin, Germany (onsite) | Travel: Regular travel required | Type: Full-timeAbout the RoleWe are a startup, still operating in stealth mode, in the defense sector, which means our environment moves fast, priorities shift, and ambiguity is part of the daily routine. We are looking for a Project Manager who thrives in that kind of setting: someone hands-on, comfortable making decisions with incomplete information, and motivated by the challenge of building processes as much as running them. This role is deliberately designed for Project Managers who see themselves eventually moving toward the commercial side of the business. Alongside the core PM responsibilities, you will build a close working relationship with our customers, giving you direct exposure to the commercial and relationship-management dimensions of our programmes. Over time, and based on performance and interest, this position offers a genuine path toward a Key Account Manager role.Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer relationship: act as a trusted, day-to-day point of contact for the customer, building the kind of relationship that lays the groundwork for a future account-management role.Programme planning and execution: define, plan, and drive project schedules, budgets, and deliverables from kickoff through to closeout.Cross-functional coordination: coordinate engineering, production, quality, and supply-chain teams to keep programmes on track.Risk and issue management: identify risks early, propose mitigations, and resolve issues pragmatically in a fast-moving, resource-constrained environment.Reporting and governance: prepare and present status reports, milestone reviews, and programme documentation to internal stakeholders and customers.Contract and compliance follow-up: track contractual obligations, deliverables, and requirements typical of aerospace and defense programmes.Process building: contribute to shaping project management practices and tools as the company scales.General PM scope: take on the full range of usual project management tasks, and others as they arise — in a startup, the job description is a starting point, not a boundary. What You Bring2+ years of experience as a Project Manager in the aerospace and defense industry, or 5+ years as a Project Manager in another industry.A genuine, hands-on working style — you are as comfortable rolling up your sleeves as you are managing a plan.Interest in transitioning toward a Key Account Manager role in the mid-term.Fluent English, spoken and written; fluency in German language is a strong plus.Willingness and availability to travel regularly, including to customer sites.Comfort in operating in a startup environment where priorities and scope can change in hours.Soft SkillsResilience and endurance under pressure and shifting priorities. An agile mentality, adapting quickly as plans and requirements evolve.Hands-on attitude, willing to get into the details when needed.Strong teamwork and collaboration across functions.Initiative — comfortable identifying what needs to happen and acting on it without waiting to be told.Excellent communication skills, both with internal teams and with customers.Your Growth PathThis position is built as a stepping stone. As you grow into the customer relationship and demonstrate commercial acumen, you will have the opportunity to transition into a Key Account Manager role — taking on broader ownership of the customer relationship and the commercial side of our programmes. This path is a mid-term ambition, not a guarantee, and its pace will depend on your performance, our business needs, and your own interest.Location & TravelThis is an onsite position based in Berlin. Regular travel is required, including visits to customer sites and programme locations, so availability to travel is an essential part of this role. Why UsJoin a defense-focused startup where you will help shape how we run programmes, work closely with customers from day one, and have a real path toward growing into a commercial role. If you are looking for structure, this may not be the place — if you are looking for ownership, impact, and a clear route into account management, it is.
