About FYTAFYTA is a Berlin-based nature-tech company building the intelligence layer for plants and soil. Our modular sensors already run in 40,000+ real-world installations across 9 climate zones, generating one of the richest continuous datasets on plant and soil health anywhere. On top of this data we build machine-learning models that turn raw sensor signals into reliable, context-aware care decisions — for plant lovers at home and for professional growers alike.We're now entering an ambitious, publicly funded R&D phase focused on adaptive sensor calibration, time-series stress inference, and a scalable data platform. That's where you come in.Why this role mattersRight now there's a gap between our research and our product. Our data scientist designs the models — adaptive calibration, time-series stress inference, probabilistic labeling from weak supervision — but someone needs to build the data foundation those models stand on, and get them running reliably in production.That someone is you. You'll be the connective tissue between raw sensor data, our ML models, and the products our users touch. It's a role with genuine ownership: much of this layer doesn't exist yet, and you'll be the one to build it.What you'll doDesign and build data pipelines that turn raw, messy fleet sensor time-series into clean, well-structured, feature-engineered datasets ready for modeling and analysis.Build and maintain the training data and experiment infrastructure our ML work depends on — including reproducible, versioned training and evaluation.Work hand-in-hand with our data scientist to take models from notebook to production: deployment, monitoring, and the MLOps glue that keeps them running as the data grows.Contribute to our data platform — ingestion, aggregation, APIs, and the backend that serves models and insights to both our consumer and professional users (a secondary but real part of the role).Own data quality, reliability, and observability — you're the person who notices when something's off before anyone else does.What we're looking forWe care more about talent, curiosity, and initiative than about years on a CV. If you're a proactive builder who wants to own things, read on.Solid Python and SQL, and hands-on experience building data pipelines (ETL/ELT).Comfort working with large datasets, ideally including time-series data.Familiarity with MLOps and data tooling (e.g. Airflow, dbt, MLflow, or similar).Backend / API development experience.Genuine interest in machine learning and MLOps — you don't need to be an ML researcher, but you want to work close to models and help get them into production.A proactive, ownership mindset: you spot problems, propose solutions, and don't wait to be told what to do.
