At Hays, we are collaborating with a leading global pharmaceutical company operating in more than 130 countries focused on improving the health and quality of life of both people and animals through innovation, research, and technology.We are looking for an AI Engineer whose primary mission will be to design and implement semantic AI solutions, knowledge graphs, and agentic AI architectures that support enterprise-scale AI adoption. Responsibilities• Design, implement, and evolve an Enterprise Semantic Layer to make enterprise knowledge accessible to AI systems and applications.• Create unified semantic representations using knowledge graphs, ontologies, metadata, and business context.• Design scalable architectures that enable interoperability across different data domains.• Ensure security, governance, scalability, observability, and maintainability of semantic platform components.• Design and implement knowledge graph architectures using RDF, OWL, SHACL, and SKOS.• Develop retrieval solutions leveraging semantic search, embeddings, NLP, metadata, and knowledge graphs.• Integrate semantic technologies with platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Neo4j, vector databases, search engines, and AI platforms.• Design and implement MCP servers, semantic tools, and reusable agent-facing services.• Define testing, evaluation, monitoring, and governance approaches for semantic and agentic AI systems.Requirements• Hands-on experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies such as spaCy.• Experience implementing and operating knowledge graph or semantic layer solutions.• Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, Git workflows, CI/CD, testing, and cloud-native architectures.• Ability to collaborate effectively with data engineers, architects, AI engineers, and business stakeholders.• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.Valorable• 3+ years of experience in software engineering, backend development, data platforms, or AI platform engineering.• Strong proficiency in Python and modern API development frameworks.• Experience with RDF, OWL, SPARQL, and SHACL.• Experience with Metaphactory, Stardog, AWS Neptune, or similar platforms.• Experience with Snowflake Semantic Models and Open Semantic Interoperability (OSI) specifications.• Experience implementing MCP servers and agent platforms.• Previous experience within pharmaceutical, healthcare, or life sciences environments.What do we offer?• Freelance contract through Hays.• Initial project duration of 6-12 months.• 100% remote working model.• Opportunity to work on innovative projects focused on Semantic AI, Knowledge Graphs, and Agentic AI.• International and highly collaborative environment.• Long-term potential within a growing AI ecosystem.
