About the RoleWe are hiring a Lead Frontend Engineer to build the browser experience of our product – a professional engineering software platform for process and plant design. This is a hands-on role for someone who codes every day, owns the interactive 2D canvas where engineers draw P&IDs and flow diagrams and the 3D view where they lay out plants and equipment, and makes a web application feel as fast and precise as a desktop CAD tool.Key ResponsibilitiesInteractive Canvas & Rendering· Build the Drawing Canvas – own the browser canvas (HTML Canvas / WebGL) for placing symbols, drawing connections, selecting, panning, and zooming.· Rendering Performance – keep the editor smooth at 60 FPS with thousands of on-screen objects through spatial indexing, culling, and level-of-detail rendering.· Desktop-Grade Interaction – undo/redo, snapping, keyboard shortcuts, multi-select, and drag precision that engineers expect from CAD software.3D Plant Layout & Equipment Models· Build the 3D Viewer – own the browser 3D view (WebGL / WebGPU, Three.js or similar) for plant layout and 3D equipment models.· Large-Model Performance – keep plants with hundreds of thousands of components interactive through instancing, level of detail, and streaming geometry.· 3D Interaction – orbit, pick, measure, section, place and move equipment, and show clashes clearly.Take the Product to the Browser· Port the Desktop UI – lead the move of the editor, panels, ribbon, dialogs, and property editors from the desktop application to the web, keeping feature parity.· Frontend Architecture – define component structure, state management, and how the client talks to the Python backend API.Frontend Quality & UX· Set Frontend Standards – coding conventions, component library, design system, and the frontend review process.· Automate Frontend Testing – unit, component, and end-to-end tests (including visual regression for drawings) so quality is enforced automatically.· Defend the User Experience – the product looks polished, stays responsive, and works across the browsers our customers use.Required Skills & Qualifications· Browser Rendering Performance – hands-on experience building interactive canvas applications (HTML Canvas / WebGL) that stay smooth with thousands of objects.· 3D Graphics in the Browser – production experience with WebGL / WebGPU (Three.js, Babylon.js, or similar) on large 3D scenes.· TypeScript & Modern Frontend – production experience with TypeScript, a modern framework (React or similar), and a modern build stack.· Complex Application State – experience with undo/redo, large client-side data models, and keeping the UI in sync with a backend API.· Experience Leading Small Teams – a track record of leading or mentoring frontend engineers and shipping products.· Pragmatic Quality Mindset – balances quality, speed, and scope; ships reliable software without over-engineering.· Founding Grit – comfortable with ambiguity and ownership; thrives in an early-stage, fast-moving environment.Preferred / Nice to Have· Experience with CAD, diagramming, or plant-design software (P&ID, process design, or related engineering tools).· Experience porting a desktop application to the browser.· Real-time collaborative editing (CRDT or operational transform).· SVG symbol rendering and vector export (SVG / PDF).· Familiarity with Python, PyQt/Qt, or graphics-intensive desktop applications. What We Offer· Founding-team role with direct impact on the product our customers use every day.· Competitive salary, performance-based bonus, and meaningful equity.· The opportunity to shape the frontend architecture and design culture from day one.
