Lead Knowledge Graph & Ontology Engineer – Financial Services / InsuranceAbout the RoleWe are seeking an experienced Lead Knowledge Graph & Ontology Engineer to lead the design and delivery of enterprise semantic solutions within the Financial Services and Insurance sector.Working closely with Data, AI, Architecture and Business teams, you will design knowledge graphs, ontologies and semantic data models that underpin AI initiatives, improve data interoperability and enable intelligent decision-making across complex business domains.Alongside remaining hands-on technically, you will help establish engineering standards, mentor engineers across different experience levels and contribute to the continued growth of a high-performing Semantic AI capability.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the design and implementation of enterprise knowledge graph and ontology solutions across insurance and financial services.Develop enterprise semantic models covering areas such as customer, policy, claims, underwriting, risk, finance, products and regulatory data.Define semantic modelling standards, governance frameworks and best practices.Build scalable ontology architectures using OWL, RDF, SPARQL, SHACL and other W3C standards.Collaborate with AI, Data Engineering, Enterprise Architecture and Business teams to deliver semantic solutions that support GenAI, GraphRAG and intelligent automation.Translate complex business domains into reusable enterprise ontologies and knowledge models.Provide technical leadership across multiple projects while mentoring and supporting engineers throughout their professional development.Contribute to the growth of a collaborative, well-structured engineering team by promoting knowledge sharing, technical excellence and continuous improvement.Required ExperienceStrong commercial experience delivering enterprise Knowledge Graph or Ontology Engineering solutions.Demonstrable experience within the Financial Services, Banking or Insurance sector, with a strong understanding of complex regulated data environments.Experience modelling business domains such as customer, policy administration, claims, underwriting, finance, payments, risk, compliance or regulatory reporting.Excellent knowledge of OWL, RDF, RDFS, SPARQL, SHACL, SKOS and Semantic Web technologies.Experience with graph databases such as Neo4j, Stardog, GraphDB or AllegroGraph.Strong understanding of semantic modelling, metadata management, taxonomy design and enterprise information architecture.Experience integrating knowledge graphs with AI, LLMs, GraphRAG or intelligent search solutions.Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.DesirableExperience working within major insurance or financial institutions.Knowledge of data governance platforms such as Collibra or Microsoft Purview.Python, Java or Scala development experience.Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP).Familiarity with Responsible AI, explainable AI and enterprise governance frameworks.Experience supporting the recruitment, mentoring and development of ontology, knowledge graph or semantic engineering teams.What We're Looking ForWe're looking for someone who enjoys solving complex information challenges while helping others succeed.
