Contributes to the design, development, testing, deployment, and operational stability of scalable backend systems and APIs. Works collaboratively with Product Managers, Architects, QE, SRE/Platform Engineering, and other squads to deliver reliable, secure, observable, and maintainable software solutions.This role requires strong technical expertise, ownership mindset, and collaboration skills.ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, test, and maintain backend services and APIsParticipate actively in Agile ceremonies including refinement, planning, reviews, and retrospectivesDeliver high-quality software solutions within agreed timelinesTroubleshoot and resolve production issues with urgency and ownershipContribute to production incident response and post-incident improvementsPerform code reviews and ensure adherence to engineering standardsCollaborate with Product Managers, Architects, QE, SRE, and other squads to deliver business valueDrive proactive maintenance and technical debt reduction initiativesImprove application reliability, performance, scalability, and securityDocument technical designs, decisions, and operational procedures when necessaryContribute reusable engineering solutions that benefit Scopus teams broadlyRequirementsExpertise in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and Object-Oriented Design (OOD)Strong expertise in Java backend developmentOpenness to learn and contribute using new technologies when requiredStrong understanding of API and service development principlesExperience designing and implementing scalable and resilient backend servicesStrong knowledge of data structures and algorithmsStrong knowledge of agentic programmingUnderstanding of software architecture and design principlesStrong debugging and problem-solving capabilitiesAbility to write clean, maintainable, and testable codeUnderstanding of concurrency, resiliency, and performance optimization conceptsStrong understanding of testing strategies including unit testing, mocking, and integration testingExperience with automated testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelinesExperience conducting code reviews and maintaining engineering quality standardsGood understanding of relational databases and database management tasksExperience writing optimized SQL queriesUnderstanding of database performance tuning and indexing conceptsQualifications4+ years of experience in backend software engineering building and supporting production systemsStrong hands-on experience developing scalable backend applications using Java and Spring FrameworkDemonstrated experience working within Agile development environmentsExperience collaborating across cross-functional teams and stakeholdersBS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experienceExperience contributing to production support, incident resolution, and operational improvementsExperience mentoring or supporting junior engineers is preferredWork in a Way That Works for YouWe promote a healthy work/life balance across the organisation.
