Vitus Commodities actively trades electricity and natural gas contracts in global markets. We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our growing technology team.Job DetailsThe role focuses on building and operating the software systems that support our trading infrastructure, spanning backend services, internal tools, and production environments. It offers the opportunity to contribute to the modernization of core platforms in a fast-paced, collaborative environment at the intersection of technology and energy markets.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, and operate backend services, primarily in Rust and Go, with Python used for data-adjacent workloads and integration work.Contribute to the full rewrite of our existing platform, while providing maintenance of the legacy Python applications that remain in production during the transition – with the expectation to keep legacy systems stable with targeted fixes rather than invest in broader refactoring.Contribute to frontend development for internal tools where the scope of a backend initiative requires it - deep frontend specialization is not expected, but the ability to deliver functional user interfaces independently is.Participate in the on-call rotation for owned services. Required QualificationsA minimum of four years of professional backend engineering experience, including meaningful production experience in at least one systems-level language (Rust, Go, or C++).Working proficiency in Python, including the ability to operate effectively within older codebases that do not reflect current tooling or conventions.Proven experience operating production services, including Linux fundamentals, containerization, networking basics, observability, and production debugging.Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Teamcity, Jenkins, Github Actions)Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to approach unfamiliar problems from first principles and assess trade-offs.Demonstrated knowledge of designing and maintaining relational databases (Postgresql, Mysql)Ability to work autonomously, take ownership, and proactively address challenges.Eager to learn and grow continouslyClear written and verbal communicationProficiency in English. Nice to HaveComfort owning infrastructure and operational concerns directly, without reliance on a dedicated DevOps or platform team.Experience with modern frontend frameworks and best practices are welcome.Experience in financial services, trading, or other domain-intensive backend environments.Experience participating in greenfield rewrites of established systems - including strategies for safely migrating functionality away from legacy platforms.If you are passionate about the energy sector and have the skills and experience we are looking for, we would love to hear from you.
