Our client is a global quantitative investment firm where technology is at the heart of the business. Their engineers build and operate highly sophisticated infrastructure that supports large-scale research and electronic trading across global markets. They are looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join their Amsterdam team and take ownership of critical network infrastructure across their trading environment. The opportunityThis is a senior, hands-on networking role with broad ownership. You'll be involved across the full lifecycle of the network – from architecture and design through to deployment, automation, monitoring, and day-to-day operations. The environment includes high-performance datacenters, global WAN connectivity, exchange and colocation infrastructure, and latency-sensitive trading systems. You'll work on technically complex networking challenges where reliability, performance, and operational efficiency are all equally important.Your responsibilities will include:Designing and evolving network architecture across production trading infrastructure.Building highly resilient connectivity between datacenters, exchanges, and colocation facilities.Working across routing, switching, multicast, datacenter networking, and optical transport technologies.Developing automation and Infrastructure-as-Code solutions to make network deployments more consistent and scalable.Improving network visibility through telemetry, monitoring, and observability.Troubleshooting complex network and performance issues across large-scale production environments.Supporting the physical deployment of network infrastructure within datacenters and colocation sites.Working closely with infrastructure, systems, and software engineers to deliver networking solutions for critical platforms.Managing relationships with network vendors and technology partners.Contributing to longer-term initiatives that improve the performance, resilience, and scalability of the global network. What you'll bringWe're looking for someone with significant experience building and operating complex production networks. You should have a strong technical foundation and enjoy working close to the infrastructure rather than operating purely at an architectural or managerial level. You'll ideally have:8+ years of relevant network engineering experience.Strong experience with Cisco and/or Arista environments.Deep knowledge of routing, switching, and datacenter networking.Practical experience with multicast and high-performance, low-latency networks.Experience with optical networking technologies such as DWDM or DCI.A track record of automating network infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code or similar approaches.Experience with network telemetry, monitoring, and observability.Exposure to financial markets, exchange connectivity, electronic trading, or other latency-sensitive environments is highly beneficial.Knowledge of precision timing technologies such as PTP and GPS would be an advantage. The ability and willingness to work hands-on with physical infrastructure and occasionally travel to colocation facilities. Why consider it?This is an opportunity to work on networking infrastructure where performance genuinely matters. You'll have the chance to influence architecture, work on complex technical challenges, and collaborate with highly skilled engineers across infrastructure and trading technology. If you're a senior network engineer who enjoys working with high-performance infrastructure and wants to operate in a technically demanding environment, we'd be keen to hear from you.
